Anti-speaker members are deliquents – Reps Leadership

The House of Representatives on Wednesday, condemned what it termed as attempts by its aggrieved members to dent its image over the issue of N2.3 billion cars bought for members in 2007, describing members who had been accusing the leadership of corrupt acts on the purchase, as delinquents.

The House said it was not aware of any foul play in the purchase of the cars for members, since neither the Speaker, Dimeji Banlole, nor other principal members had the authority to award contracts on purchase of cars and other items bought for members.

Addressing journalists on the seven-day ultimatum given by some members to the Speaker for resignation, the House Committee Chairman on Media and Publicity, Honourable Eseme Eyiboh said only the National Assembly Management has been saddled with such responsibility.

He said as of today, the Clerk of the National Assembly hold the power to direct purchase of any approved items for members, stressing that such responsibility never fell on the Speaker and Principal officials of the House.
